Under the historic French Association Law of July 1, 1901, volunteer commitment (bénévolat) represents the foundational pillar of civil society. It is the voluntary, non-remunerated gift of one's time, skills, and energy in pursuit of a common goal that serves the public interest. At ECURIES DE LOU BAYLE, volunteers are not secondary helpers; they are the heart, soul, and moral backbone of our entire institutional existence.

Whether you are a student exploring environmental science, a retired agricultural worker wishing to pass on traditional land stewardship skills, a healthcare worker interested in equine-assisted therapy, or a local resident passionate about animal welfare, our association offers a welcoming, respectful, and well-structured civic home. Every volunteer receives comprehensive safety training, ethical horsemanship onboarding, and the continuous support of certified team leads.

Current Open Unpaid Volunteer Roles & Civic Opportunities

We are actively welcoming civic volunteers across four principal operational domains. All roles are strictly unpaid, voluntary contributions to public utility:

1. Therapeutic Equine Care & Session Support Assistant

Assist qualified equine educators during therapeutic mediation sessions for children with disabilities, neurodivergent youth, and elderly participants. Responsibilities include preparing horses with gentle brushing, assisting participants with safety helmets and sensory equipment, walking alongside horses as side-walkers (accompagnateurs latéraux) to ensure emotional reassurance and physical stability, and helping maintain clean, calm paddock environments.

2. Agro-Ecological Field Steward & Pasture Custodian

Contribute directly to the ecological management of our 45 hectares of traditional meadows in Vira. Responsibilities include planting native hedgerow saplings, maintaining wildlife water troughs, monitoring pasture fencing, clearing overgrown pedestrian trailheads, and participating in seasonal botanical surveys to document Pyrenean biodiversity recovery.

3. Public Education & School Visit Facilitator

Help facilitate our free and subsidized educational field trips for local primary and middle school students. Responsibilities include guiding small student groups along our nature discovery trail, explaining equine ethology and herd communication, supervising hands-on soil biology workshops, and fostering respect for living ecosystems among young citizens.

4. Community Event & Accessibility Marshal

Support our public gatherings, General Assemblies, and seasonal community workshops. Responsibilities include welcoming participants at the reception desk, coordinating parking and accessibility assistance for persons with reduced mobility (PMR), preparing open-air educational materials, and ensuring warm, inclusive hospitality for all attendees.

ECURIES DE LOU BAYLE adheres to a rigorous Volunteer Charter (Charte du Bénévolat) that establishes clear rights and protections for every citizen who dedicates time to our mission:

• Comprehensive Associative Insurance: Every registered volunteer is fully covered by our non-profit civil liability and bodily accident insurance policy (Assurance Responsabilité Civile et Individuelle Accident) throughout their activities.
• Free Technical & Safety Training: Volunteers receive structured training in equine behavioral ethology, safe handling practices, and emergency response procedures before engaging in active paddock work.

• Flexible Time Commitment: Civic volunteering is tailored to each individual’s availability. Whether you can offer two hours per month or multiple mornings per week, your contribution is deeply valued.

Democratic Membership & Reinvestment Guarantee

Volunteers are encouraged to become formal voting members of ECURIES DE LOU BAYLE. As a registered member, you possess the democratic right to participate in our annual General Assembly, review audited financial reports, vote on key policy resolutions, and stand for election to our Board of Directors.

Annual membership dues are modest, ensuring that economic constraints never prevent citizen participation. Under our statutory rules:

"All membership fees and dues are fully reinvested in the association's public interest missions."

We do not pay corporate bonuses, commercial commissions, or dividends. Every euro is reinvested into the welfare of our equines, the safety of our visitors, and the ecological stewardship of our Ariège pastures.
